Synopsis

BY GARY YOUNG

“Before you embark on a journey of revenge, first dig two graves.”

From the writer and producer of Harry Brown, Two Graves is a dark modern day revenge neo noir, starring Dave Johns (I, Daniel Blake), David Hayman (Taboo), Josh Herdman (Robin Hood), Katie Jarvis (Fish Tank), Danielle Harold (Eastenders), Cathy Tyson (Mona Lisa) and Kedar William- Stirling, (Shank, Roots), and deals with themes of revenge, unspoken secrets and uncomfortable truths. Margaret Powers (Cathy Tyson), a middle aged, middle class doctor of pathology, seeks a path of vengeance when she captures and tortures the young man she believes murdered her son, but in a bid to extract a confession, that path to vengeance leads to tragedy and unearths deeply troubling truths. Helped by a twenty something recovering addict, who survives on her instincts and wits, Zoe (Katie Jarvis), was once a lover of Margaret’s son, now she is dogged by her former pimp, Teddy (Josh Herdman), a deceitful, manipulative and dangerous thug.

“Together Zoe and Margaret, who under ordinary circumstances would have nothing in common, kidnap Finn O’Neil, the son of an old school, local gangster, Tommy (David Hayman), a fearsome underworld figure, who loves his son dearly, but whose legitimate face in business only thinly disguises his violent nature.

Finn, having managed to escape justice through his father’s influence, is held in a disused, derelict shipyard, a haven where junkies and prostitutes take their clients and patrolled by a pair of mismatched night watchmen. Senior man, straight laced, George (Dave Johns), takes his job far too seriously for the younger, Barry (Kedar Williams-Stirling), who is only really interested in drinking tea, playing cards and enjoying the company of a young prostitute, Leanne (Danielle Harold), who plies her trade on the barren industrial estate that has long seen better days.

As Margaret’s plans and Zoe’s true motivation is slowly revealed, shocking facts emerge and the characters are drawn into a violent and horrifying conclusion.
